Getting the most out of your Rimo3 Cloud PoC

Introduction#

Preparing for the PoC#

Selecting packages to test#

When selecting packages for your PoC tenant you should bear the following in mind:

  • All packages must must install and uninstall unattended.
  • Packages in MSI or AppV format can be automatically imported and offer a more streamlined experience.
  • Applications that install via an unattended Setup EXE or script file will need to be manually added individually. This includes applications provided in MSI format by the vendor but are nonetheless installed using a Setup EXE or script.
  • Applications requiring backend connectivity to your environment when installed or when lauched should not be included.
  • Installations that do not include interactive applications, i.e. which only install services, drivers, fonts or add-ins/plugins are not recommended.
  • Antivirus and other EndPoint protection products are not recommended either.

Preparing the selected applications for Upload#

  • All packages will have to be zipped before they can be uploaded
  • MSI and AppV packages can be zipped up either individually or together in one or more zip files
  • Applications that install via Setup EXE or script file should be zipped individually.
  • The maximum size for any zip file is 4GB but smaller files, less than 2GB, will upload more reliably.
  • Packages should be in separate folders when adding them to a zip file
  • Zip files should not be password protected.
note

Other archive formats such as RAR or 7z are not supported.

What to expect from your PoC Tenant#

When you first login to your PoC tenant you will have the opportunity to complete a questionnire where you will:

  • Choose what you would like to do
  • Select the operating systems that will be used
  • Upload your zipped MSI and AppV packages
Good to know

Any applications that install via Setup EXE or script file can be uploaded later

Once the questionnaire has been submitted you will be taken tot he appropriate dashboard where results will be displayed as soon as they are available.

Rimo3 Cloud Dashbaords#

On the suitability for WVD dashboard you will see result for your uploaded applications when tested on a multi-session version of Windows in it's current package format. This is the WVD (as-is) result.

You will aslo see the MSIX Suitability result which looks at things like whether or not the application includes executables and shortcuts that can be used to launch the MSIX and advises if the application is suitable for conversion. Additionally, becuase your PoC tenant will also convert suitable applications, you will see whether or not the converted MSIX actually works on a multi-session version of windows.

MSIXs created by Rimo3 Cloud are signed with a trusted certificate and therefore do not need to be resigned to use in your environment. If you make changes to the downloaded MSIX package you will have to resign it with your own certificate.

FAQs#

Q: Can I upload setup EXEs and scripts?

A: Yes, but due to the nature of their format they can't be automatically imported. Setup EXEs and scripts can be manually added by selecting Upload then clicking on Manually Add on the Navigation Bar.
